Continuing Coverage with COBRA

If you experience a qualifying life event — such as leaving Memorial, reducing your work hours, or another change that ends your active coverage — you may be eligible to continue your health benefits through COBRA (the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act).

What benefits can you keep under COBRA?

With COBRA, you can choose to keep many of the same benefits you had as an active employee, including:

  • Medical (MMCP or MCHP)
  • Dental
  • Vision

How to enroll

  1. After your qualifying event, you’ll receive a COBRA election notice from P&A group, our plan administrator.
  2. Review your options carefully — you’ll have NEED NUMBER days from the date of your notice to elect coverage.
  3. Complete the election form and return it by the deadline.
  4. Pay your first premium (retroactive to your coverage end date to avoid a gap).

Coverage can continue for up to:

  • 18 months (for most qualifying events, like termination or reduced hours)
  • 36 months (for certain other events, like divorce or a dependent aging out)
