For your convenience, please use Valet parking in front of the Emergency Department/Surgical Services entrance (available 6 am – midnight).
All of the rooms in the Family Birthplace are private. They all have either a hospital bed with a sleeper sofa or recliner chair for your partner. All have private bathrooms—some with tubs with jets, some with showers. The rooms have free television and Wi-Fi access. Please note that, no matter what room you are in, we are committed to providing excellent nursing care.

Nitrous Oxide for Labor
The Family Birthplace at Memorial Hospital West offers women nitrous oxide to reduce pain and anxiety during labor and delivery. How well nitrous oxide works is different for every woman. Common side effects may include feeling drowsy, lightheaded or nauseated while you are using the gas. There are no documented effects on the fetus or baby.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Memorial Hospital West has been caring for neonate babies since 1996.
If your baby has been admitted to the NICU, it is because he or she requires more care than the Newborn Nursery can provide. At Memorial Hospital West, we are a level II NICU, providing some of the latest high-tech equipment and a highly trained staff for the care of your baby.
The NICU takes care of babies who:
- Are premature
- Experience complications at birth
- Have congenital anomalies
- Have infections
- Have low blood sugar
The NICU at Memorial Hospital West has the NICVIEW webcam system -- allowing you to see your newborn in the NICU from a computer or mobile device. The streaming video of your baby can only be accessed with a unique username and password. The NICVIEW system is free, easy to use and secure.
Neonatal Bereavement Support Group
If you've experienced the loss of a pregnancy or an infant, we have resources available to support you as you heal and cope with grief. Please join our bereavement support group for parents who have suffered a miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death the second Thursday of each month from 6:30 pm - 8 pm at Memorial Hospital Pembroke.
