The Promise of Regenerative Sports Medicine
Advanced Diagnostic Tests for Sports Injuries
We use various imaging techniques to accurately diagnose sports injuries. In addition to X-rays and MRI, we often use diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound. This technology allows us to see the muscles, nerves, tendons and ligaments in motion. These studies provide a roadmap that guides treatment.
We also use advanced testing to diagnose chronic exertional compartment syndrome. Our specialists perform a compartment pressure test right in our clinic. This test involves measuring the pressure within the affected muscle compartment immediately after a brief period of guided exercise. Doing so allows us to confirm the condition and develop the right treatment plan.
Sports Medicine Services
Whenever possible, we take a conservative approach to treatment, starting your care with non-surgical therapies. Treatments may include physical therapy, steroid injections or regenerative medicine techniques. Our team includes primary care sports medicine doctors who focus exclusively on non-surgical treatments.
Our sports medicine physicians specialize in regenerative medicine to treat many orthopedic conditions. These advanced, non-surgical treatments, also called orthobiologic therapies, use a person’s own natural healing components.
First, we collect a sample of blood for platelet-rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow for bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) or fat tissue for microfragmented adipose tissue (MFAT). Next, the sample is processed to create PRP, BMAC or MFAT. Then, the doctor injects the therapy directly into the injured area — such as a tendon, ligament or joint — to support the body’s natural repair process, reduce inflammation and improve function.
Our sports medicine and orthopedic surgeons use advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible. We insert an arthroscope (thin tube with a camera on one end) through a tiny incision and surgical instruments through other incisions. The surgeon uses the video images to guide the procedure. These techniques make surgery more precise, reduce complications and speed recovery.
A customized exercise program to strengthen muscles and improve mobility is an essential part of treating any sports injury. Our specialized physical therapists provide personalized plans that help you recover faster and prevent future injuries.
