Adult 22Q Multidisciplinary Clinic
If you or a loved one is diagnosed with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, we understand some of the challenges you may face. You need care from multiple specialists who know how the condition can affect different aspects of health. Our goal is to simplify care by bringing together specialists who can support your 22q-related health needs.
First-of-its-Kind Adult 22q Multidisciplinary Clinic in Florida
The Adult 22q Multidisciplinary Clinic at Memorial Healthcare System is the first program of its kind in Florida and among only a few adult 22q clinics nationwide. We provide patient- and family-centered care to those age 18 and older with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, duplication syndrome and related chromosome 22 differences.
Collaborative 22q Care
22q11.2 deletion syndrome may impact how organs develop and body systems function. Because the condition varies, two people with the same diagnosis can have vastly different symptoms. Your care team works together to customize treatment based on your needs.
Our specialists can help adults with 22q who may have symptoms affecting their:
- Heart: Congenital heart disease is common in people with 22q.
- Hormones: Underdeveloped parathyroid glands can cause low calcium levels. Thyroid issues can also occur and become more common with age.
- Immune system: Individuals with 22q may experience recurrent infections and an increased risk for autoimmune conditions.
- Mental health: Adults diagnosed with 22q may have a higher risk for psychiatric conditions, including anxiety and depression.
Genetic Counseling
Most 22q11.2 deletions occur spontaneously before birth and are not inherited from a parent. However, a person with 22q has a 50 percent chance of passing it to each child. Our team offers genetic counseling to help you understand inheritance and your diagnosis.
22q Adult Clinic FAQs
22q11.2 deletion syndrome, also known as DiGeorge syndrome or velocardiofacial syndrome, is a congenital disorder (present at birth). According to the 22q11.2 Society, it occurs in approximately one out of every 2,000 live births. 22q happens when a small piece of chromosome 22 is missing, called a microdeletion. Adults with 22q benefit from regular follow-up care because health conditions associated with the syndrome can emerge or change over time.
While 22q is nearly as common as Down syndrome, awareness remains low. Our adult 22q clinic brings together specialists who understand the condition’s complex medical needs, simplifying care under one roof.
Our adult clinic brings together specialists in one coordinated visit for those who are:
- Diagnosed with 22q as an adult
- Transitioning from our Pediatric 22q Clinic at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital
- Continuing 22q care from childhood
We also care for adults with 22q11.2 duplication syndrome and related chromosome 22 differences.
Members of our adult 22q clinic meet quarterly on the third Wednesday of each month, beginning at 8:30 am, located at:
Total Heart Center
Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute
3501 Johnson Street, First Floor
Hollywood, FL 33021
You’ll meet with specialists based on your individual health needs. Through our Adult 22q Multidisciplinary Clinic, you’ll have access to:

If your child is currently in our Pediatric 22q Clinic at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, they may transition to our adult 22q clinic as they approach age 18. Our pediatric and adult clinics belong to the same 22q program, so your child’s records, history and some familiar specialists will transition with you. Families should ask the pediatric team about transition planning starting in the teen years.
