About Me

I am a critical care physician at Memorial Healthcare System. I care for patients in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) who have undergone heart surgery, such as a bypass or valve replacement; heart transplant; or those who require a mechanical circulatory support device, such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) or a left ventricular assist device (LVAD).

The complexity of critically ill patients, invasive procedures and intellectual challenges that the ICU offers sparked my interest in this field during my residency and eventually motivated me to pursue this subspecialty of medicine. I also enjoy the multidisciplinary approach the ICU often offers, where decisions are made by a team of healthcare providers including the physician, pharmacist, nutritionist, physical therapist, case manager, social worker, etc. We’re all working together to help our patients heal.

In addition to Critical Care Medicine, I subspecialize in Infectious Diseases, another passion of mine. I consider having this additional subspecialty an invaluable asset in the ICU, as our patients may develop infections such as ventilator-associated pneumonia, bloodstream infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections that can be challenging to diagnose and treat.

When working with patients and their family members, I strive to be honest and provide a clear explanation of what will or might happen in the next few hours or days, based on their condition. It is tremendously important to discuss with them their goals of care so we can always respect them, especially if patients are not able to make decisions for themselves later during their hospital stay.

Honoring the trusting relationship and connection between patients and physician is paramount. We have a duty to do what is best for our patients and provide them with the treatment they need and deserve, while advocating for their best interests and respecting their wishes and goals of care.
