Memorial Hospital West

Memorial Hospital West, part of Memorial Healthcare System, has been recently certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA), making the hospital part of an elite group of providers in Florida focused on complex stroke care.

Also in this distinguished group is Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, the flagship hospital of Memorial Healthcare System.

Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification recognizes those hospitals that have state-of-the-art infrastructure and specialized staff to receive and treat patients with the most complex strokes and cerebrovascular diseases.

Brijesh P Mehta, MD, and Hoang Duong, MD, both highly skilled neurointerventional surgeons, have received special, advanced training in innovative procedures to correct blood vessel abnormalities during a stroke.

They will provide around-the-clock services for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations of the brain and spine, and in atherosclerotic disease of the carotid and intracranial vasculature.

Memorial Hospital West meets or exceeds the standards required for the comprehensive stroke center designation, including advanced imaging capabilities, 24/7 availability of specialized treatments and staff with the unique education and competencies to care for complex stroke patients. Dr. Mehta trained at the Massachusetts General Hospital, a teaching institution for Harvard Medical School. Dr. Duong received his training at Columbia University’s New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

“Memorial Hospital West is committed to providing our patients with the highest quality stroke care based on current scientific research to ensure continuous improvement in care,” said Dr. Mehta, director of Stroke and Neurocritical Care in the Memorial Healthcare System. “Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification has given us the opportunity to highlight the exceptional stroke care we provide for our patients, and improved care overall for the benefit of our community.”
