GME FAQs

Why is Memorial pursuing GME training programs?

Memorial has decided to establish residency training to help Florida meet its future demand for physicians. A 2005 study published by the Association of American Medical Colleges estimates a shortage of physicians within the next 10 years to the tune of 46,000 to 90,000 nationwide. In addition, Florida ranks 42 out of 50 states in terms of graduate medical education spots per 100,000 population.

As one of the largest public healthcare systems in the country, Memorial’s GME program will help advance our mission of “healing the mind, body and spirit of those who we touch” by bringing enhanced clinical programs, research and innovation to the community we serve.
