Explore Our Parkinson's Disease Exercise Program

Exercise is an important part of a healthy life for everyone. But for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease, exercise is key to managing symptoms and improving mobility and balance. Exercise also makes daily activities easier. In fact, the Parkinson's Outcomes Project – the largest-ever clinical study of Parkinson’s – found that people with the condition who exercised at least 2.5 hours a week had a better quality of life than those who didn't exercise.

If you or a loved one has Parkinson’s Disease, the Parkinson’s Exercise Program at Memorial Healthcare Medical Fitness Centers helps maximize your mobility and coordination. This free program, made possible through grants from the Parkinson’s Foundation, is designed for individuals diagnosed with all levels of Parkinson’s disease.

A semi-annual evaluation helps track progress and manage symptoms safely.

Our team of clinical exercise physiologists and professional group fitness instructors have designed a range of classes to engage you or your loved one both physically and mentally. Exercises can be done standing or sitting in a chair.

Medically supervised classes include:

  • Cardiovascular exercises (aerobics)
  • Mobility training
  • Strength training

Virtual group classes are currently available three to four times a week. Classes also offer educational materials from the National Parkinson’s Foundation.

It’s fun to be with others you can relate to,” he said. “We’re a group now and we support each other.
