Bariatric Surgery Centers

MBSAQIP Bariatric Accredited Center seal

Our specially trained bariatric surgeons in the Weight-Loss Surgery Program perform surgery at the following Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) accredited bariatric centers: Memorial Regional Hospital, Memorial Hospital Pembroke, and Memorial Hospital West. They can help you achieve weight loss and better health for life when other weight loss options have not worked. Obesity is one of the most common chronic health conditions in the United States. If you are unable to lose weight on your own with diet and exercise, it’s not because you lack the willpower or you haven’t found the right eating plan.

This is why we offer a comprehensive approach to weight loss that includes specialized bariatric surgeons, dietitians, and fitness experts working together for your well-being. Obesity not only can limit your ability to be active, it can contribute to serious medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea.

Don’t let your weight keep you from living life to the fullest.

When compared to traditional open surgery, the benefits of minimally invasive weight loss surgery include:

  • Quicker recovery
  • Smaller scars

How Bariatric Surgery Works

There are three ways that bariatric surgery can help you lose weight:

  • Limiting the amount of food you eat by making your stomach smaller
  • Reducing how many calories your body absorbs after you eat
  • Changing the way your hormones signal that you are hungry

Improve Overall Health With Bariatric Surgery

Losing weight can improve your overall health and quality of life. Being overweight or obese makes it harder to participate in daily activities. It can also make some health conditions,  such as heart disease or diabetes worse and lead to other chronic health conditions. Other issues that obese patients may suffer from include:

  • Arthritis or joint disease
  • Cancer
  • GERD (acid reflux)
  • High blood pressure
  • Kidney disease
  • Obstructive sleep apnea
