Heart Surgery at Memorial Gives Susana a Second Chance

Susana was born with a heart condition that she lived with for most of her life.

“I used to get tired and short of breath all the time,” she said.

While at Memorial for an unrelated surgery, she met with cardiologists who discussed repairing her heart condition. Memorial’s cardiac team recommended a heart procedure, and Susana decided to go through with it.

“It was a very tough decision; I’ve lived with it for 42 years,” she said.

Under the care of Memorial’s cardiac team, Susana’s surgery was a success and her heart defect was repaired.

“Before the surgery, I really had no idea what my limitations were,” she said. “It’s changed my life; I feel 100 percent better. I’m definitely happier than I was before.”

After surgery, Susana realized how different her life was going to be.

“I felt like I was getting a second chance at life,” she said.
