Florida Blue Insurance Coverage – Important Update
Memorial Healthcare System Out-of-Network for Florida Blue Members
Memorial Healthcare System (“Memorial”) and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. (“Florida Blue”) have not reached a new agreement. If an agreement is not reached, effective September 1, 2025, Memorial hospitals and facilities will be out of network for Florida Blue members.
While Florida Blue continues to raise premiums for patients, their proposals do not equitably reflect the cost of providing high-quality, complex care which could impact Memorial’s ability to continue to invest in our community.
On average, Memorial reinvests more than $900 million each year back into our community through charitable work, medical education, and covering insurance shortfalls. Memorial is a public, not-for-profit, mission-driven, safety-net hospital, dedicated to providing compassionate high-quality care to every individual, regardless of their ability to pay.
What This Means for You:
Emergency care remains covered under federal law, even if we are out of network.
Patients in an active course of treatment may be eligible for Continuity of Care benefits, which could allow you to continue treatment with your Memorial providers for a limited time. Eligibility is determined by Florida Blue. Call the number on the back of your insurance card to ask if you qualify.
For non-emergency services, out-of-network coverage may mean higher out-of-pocket costs. Review your plan documents or call Florida Blue for details about your specific benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions – Out–Of–Network
Q: Is Memorial still in network for Florida Blue members?
A: No. As of September 1, 2025, Memorial Healthcare System hospitals and facilities are out of network for Florida Blue members. Out-of-Network means that Memorial hospitals and facilities no longer have a contract with Florida Blue. As a result, non-emergency services may have higher out of pocket costs than if you receive care from an in-network provider.
Q: Which Florida Blue plans are affected?
A: All Florida Blue plans — including commercial (employer-sponsored), ACA Marketplace, and Medicare Advantage — are impacted.
Q: Will my emergency care still be covered?
A: Yes. Under federal law, emergency services are covered at in-network rates, even if Memorial is out of network.
Q: What if I’m in the middle of treatment?
A: You may be eligible for Continuity of Care benefits, which allow you to continue treatment with Memorial for a limited time. Contact Florida Blue directly to confirm eligibility by calling the number on the back of your insurance card.
Q: How will being out-of-network affect my costs?
A: For non-emergency care, out-of-network services may have higher out-of-pocket costs. Review your plan benefits or call Florida Blue for details.
