A routine visit to Jose’s cardiologist turned up an anomaly, and a catheterization found a 90 percent blockage in his left coronary artery.

At age 48, he was told he needed double bypass surgery.

“You can’t imagine what kind of shock that was,” he said.

Memorial’s cardiac surgical team performed the surgery successfully, allowing Jose to make plans for a fuller life.

“I’d like to spend more time on the water, fishing,” he said.

The reassuring and professional manner of the surgical team gave Jose the feeling he could trust them.

“They took really good care of me. I’m back to doing everything I love to do – and a little more,” he said.

With help from Memorial, Jose got a second chance.

“When you get the opportunity to do more of the things you love, to spend more time with the people you love, you’ve gotten a second chance,” he said. “Memorial saved my life.”
