About Me

Marcelo Blaya, MD, is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He earned his medical degree from the Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Grande do Sul School of Medicine in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 1997. He went on to complete an initial residency program in internal medicine there, from 1998 to 2000.

Dr. Blaya completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2002 and 2004, respectively. He completed his fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Sylvester Cancer Center, University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2007.

Dr. Blaya moved to New Orleans to join Tulane University as an assistant professor of clinical medicine. He also served as associate director of the fellowship training program and as director of cancer management program at the Interim LSU Hospital during his time at Tulane. He then joined East Jefferson General Hospital, where he served as chief of hematology/oncology.

Dr. Blaya’s research interests include breast oncology.
