One City at a Time: Memorial Healthcare System Brings Resources and Services to Miramar Communities

July 08, 2024

Memorial Healthcare System’s One City at a Time program rolled into Miramar on June 29 and will be an active presence in the city for the next three months. Mobile units, which provide south Broward residents easy access to health resources and services, all at no charge, will be at community locations three times a week in July, August, and September.

The program seeks to improve the health of the uninsured or underinsured, in part, by removing barriers to health and care and making it easier to connect with available resources. It’s all part of Memorial Primary Care’s commitment to proactive health that can prevent or more easily treat chronic conditions before they become a crisis for an individual and his or her family.

“We know that not having easy access to care is one of the social determinants that impact a person’s overall health,” said Vedner Guerrier, chief transformation officer at Memorial Healthcare System. “That’s why we’ve made the commitment to have our mobile units on-site at community locations to make it easier for people to care for themselves and their families.”

No appointment is necessary at the pediatric and adult mobile health units, which offer medical exams and screenings, vaccinations, nutritional counseling, Medicaid eligibility and insurance enrollment information, referrals to social services and specialists, and access to primary care physicians.

The mobile units will be in Miramar three times a week for the 12-week period:

The June 29 kickoff event at the city’s Multi-Service Complex introduced Miramar residents to available assistance for children and adults. The event also featured lunch and healthy food packages for attendees, a job fair, raffles, games, music, and activities for kids.

"This is a vital step for the City of Miramar to partner with Memorial Healthcare System to bring quality and free health care to our community,” said Miramar Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis.

The One City at a Time program has previously launched in Hallandale Beach, Dania Beach, and Hollywood.
