COVID-19 Symptom Assessment

IMPORTANT: Stay home and self-isolate while waiting for your COVID-19 test results.

It is important to watch for COVID-19 symptoms and take appropriate action, depending on how severe your symptoms are. Monitor the following symptoms described by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)*:

Green Zone: In Control

Conditions and symptoms

  • Breathing easily without a cough or shortness of breath
  • Not wheezing
  • Not experiencing chest tightening
  • Not experiencing any weakness
  • Not vomiting or having diarrhea

Continue to

  • Take your temperature twice a day
  • Keep a daily log of your symptoms
  • Separate yourself from other people
  • Get rest and stay hydrated
  • Stay in touch with your doctor

Yellow Zone: Caution

Conditions and symptoms

  • Older adult
  • Under 12 months old
  • Heart or lung disease or diabetes
  • Fever higher than 100.4
  • Increased coughing and/or sputum
  • Feeling more tired than usual
  • Less of an appetite
  • Occasional vomiting and/or diarrhea

Continue to

  • Monitor and keep a log of your symptoms
  • Get rest and stay hydrated
  • Manage your fever as directed by your doctor
  • Notify your doctor of worsening symptoms

If you notice a Yellow Caution, work closely with your healthcare team.

Red Zone: Emergency

Having just one of these symptoms requires immediate medical attention:

  • Having a hard time breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • Feeling confused or forgetful
  • Not able to stay awake
  • Bluish lips or face

Call 911 or go to the Emergency Room immediately!
