Pediatric Medical Genetics

Rotation: PED 407-1

Length: 2 or 4 weeks

Goals:  Participate and learn approaches to the evaluation, testing and treatment of human genetic disorders in a general genetic clinic. You will learn to take a genetic family history, and initiate the genetic evaluation of patients and clients with a wide range of real and potential genetic disorders.

Objectives:  Learn to take a detailed family history/ pedigree, learn to evaluate patients with a real or potential genetic disorder including patients with disorders of metabolism, patients with dysmorphic features, patients with autism and developmental delay, and patients with assorted other genetic disorders including familial cancers, learn to use genetic databases for mapping the genome, identification of individual causative genes, learn to use genetic databases for differential diagnosis.
