PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program

The pharmacy residency program at Memorial Regional Hospital was established in 2006. It is ASHP accredited. Memorial pharmacy residents practice excellent, patient-focused pharmaceutical care, with the goals of promoting favorable patient outcomes, improving the health status of the community and achieving a high level of patient satisfaction. Residents study several clinical specialties and provide care for a wide range of patients. They also educate patients, pharmacists, nurses, physicians and other members of the healthcare team on drug-related topics.

The Memorial Residency Program is a 12-month progressive residency program offering clinical rotations in:

  • Infectious Diseases
  • Internal Medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Critical Care
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Psychiatry
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Advanced Hospital
  • Research
  • Neonatology
  • Rehabilitative Medicine

Elective rotations are available for an optimal practice experience. Electives include:

  • Administration
  • Oncology
  • Trauma
  • Investigational Drug Services
  • Transitions of Care

The residency program is also tailored to meet individual interests and time is provided for research, projects and professional meetings. Upon completion of the Memorial Residency Program, participants are competent pharmacists with enhanced clinical skills and knowledge, able to contribute greatly to the pharmacy profession. Our multi-site residency program has focused tracks affiliated with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Memorial Regional Hospital South. Experiences with these programs include the same required rotations with electives in specialty areas of pediatrics or rehabilitation medicine.

About the Pharmacy Department

Memorial pharmacists practice in an environment where service and commitment make them valuable members of the healthcare team. The Pharmacy Department comprises clinical pharmacists and specialists who interact daily through pharmaceutical care assignments. Staff members include those with graduate degrees, fellowship training, residency training, board certification and years of clinical and management experience.
