Dr. Mapa graduated from Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio and completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship in brain injury medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. Since graduating, Dr. Mapa has served in the capacity of Medical Director for Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation at Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas in addition to most recently being the Medical Director of Quality and Brain Injury at the Memorial Rehabilitation Institute in Hollywood, Florida. She is currently board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and subspecialty certified in brain injury medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She also holds certification in medical quality by the American Board of Medical Quality. Dr. Mapa has served in leadership roles at many institutions most notably Vice Chair-Quality at University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston; Representative for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to the Senate of the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston; Member-OSUMC Patient Affairs Committee at Ohio State University; Member Infection Control Committee at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center and most recently as a Consultant-Development and Design of the Brain Injury Unit at the Memorial Rehabilitation Institute in Hollywood, Florida. In addition to her leadership activities, Dr. Mapa has many ongoing professional memberships. She participated as a Young Physician Ambassador with Harris County Medical Society and was a Fellow with the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, in addition to being a member of the Association of Academic Physiatrists, American College of Medical Quality and North American Brain Injury Society. During her career, Dr. Mapa has consistently demonstrated a commitment to scholarly activity which includes, but is not limited to, continuous quality improvement and research related to fall reduction, reduction of urinary tract infections in the rehab patient population and also primary healthcare for persons with traumatic brain injury. In addition to her clinical duties, Dr. Mapa has always incorporated teaching. Her most notable roles include Assistant Professor-Clinical at both the University of Texas Health Science Center and Ohio State University.
