Course Description
This program consists of 2 days (8 hours each) of lectures on select acute illnesses. Presentations will include healthcare practitioner management of specialty areas: cardiovascular, psychiatry, neurology, medication safety, validation of controlled substances and medication errors. The lectures will be presented in tracks for specific health conditions. Speakers will provide a full review of the topic. Treatment measures will also be discussed. Lectures may be supplemented with case presentations. Audience participation is encouraged. Refer to program schedule for tracks and a full list of topics. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be served on site both days. Complimentary on-site parking is available.

Learning Objectives
During the symposium, each speaker will:
- review role of the pharmacist / healthcare practitioner for managing acute conditions
- discuss anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the organ system
- explain epidemiology information for the disease state
- review drug therapy for each disease state including med classes, dosing and pharmacology
- discuss patient assessment including monitoring for efficacy and side effects
- explain importance of laboratory tests and drug interactions

Continuing Education Credit
Memorial Regional Hospital is a Florida Board of Pharmacy continuing education provider. This two day comprehensive program includes 16 hours of general continuing education (GCE) including 2 hours of medication errors (ME) for pharmacists, technicians, nurses and respiratory therapists; OR 16 hours of consultant recertification continuing education (CR) plus 2 hours of medication errors (ME) for pharmacists. Two (2) hours of Validation of Controlled Substances is also offered with this program. The symposium is approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy and registered with CE Broker.
