Diverse Supplier Guidelines

Memorial Healthcare System uses guidelines from the following organizations to determine if a business is small, minority- or women-owned. For further information, please contact the SBE Office, or visit the referenced websites.

Small Businesses as defined by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) www.sba.gov/size/indexsize.html : Any business can be considered "small" if they meet or are below an established size standard. The SBA has issued a table of small business size standards for industries via the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). To determine if your business is a small firm, please visit the referenced SBA websites. Some of the most common size standards are listed below:

  • 500 employees for most manufacturing & mining industries
  • 100 employees for all wholesale trade industries
  • $5 million in revenues for most retail and service industries
  • $27.5 million in revenues for most general & heavy construction industries
  • $11.5 million in revenues for all special trade contractors

Woman Business Enterprises (WBE) as defined by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council www.wbenc.org/pages/standard7.asp

"An independent business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more women who are U.S. Citizens or Legal Resident Aliens ... whose management and daily operation is controlled by one or more of the women owners."
