Memorial Neuroscience Center

Neurology

Neurologists at Memorial Neuroscience Center at Memorial Regional Hospital and Memorial Hospital West diagnose and nonsurgically treat a wide range of brain, spine and nerve disorders, including:

Some of the most advanced technology is available at Memorial Neuroscience Center to assist physicians in effectively diagnosing neurological disorders and injuries. Computerized axial tomography (CAT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), spinal taps and EEG (electroencephalography) are among the many specialized neurological tests available. In addition, electromyography/nerve conduction velocity testing (EMG/NCV) help diagnose nerve and muscle problems, and sleep EEGs allow neurologists to evaluate nerve patterns in adults and children who may be experiencing seizure activity during sleep. Another test, somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP), uses painless electrical stimulation to help evaluate the location and extent of nerves damaged by disease or trauma. If necessary, other specialists may be consulted, or a surgical evaluation may be suggested.

Memorial Neuroscience Center is widely recognized for its regional expertise in stroke treatment. It is certified as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission (JC), the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. JC’s Primary Stroke Center Certification is based on recommendations for Primary Stroke Centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association.
