Memorial Diabetes Centers
At Memorial Diabetes Centers, certified diabetes educators complement the patient-physician relationship with personalized lessons on nutrition, insulin therapy and other topics relevant to managing diabetes. Known for their hands-on philosophy, they educate patients and their loved ones in fresh and creative ways.
The inpatient and outpatient diabetes programs at Memorial focus on self-care skills and ways to improve the quality of life for diabetic adults and children. Outreach services include community screenings and free support groups.
Memorial Healthcare System’s Diabetes Education Program has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for Quality Self-Management Education, receiving a three-year accreditation from the ADA. The accreditation is granted to those programs that meet certain national standards for both adult and pediatric diabetic patients. The American Diabetes Association recognizes this program as meeting the national standards for diabetes self-management education. These standards include compliance with individualized patient education, improved outcomes, documentation and community wellness promotion, as well as greater consistency in the quality and quantity of education offered to people with diabetes. The ADA endorsed the Standards in 1983 and has recognized programs that meet the Standards since 1987.
