Memorial Hospital Miramar Opens New Pediatric Sports Program
[U-18] Sports Medicine Caters To Young Athletes

Thursday, September 17 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(Miramar, Fl.) — Kids are now back to school, back to sports, and unfortunately, back to injuries for many young athletes involved in a variety of sports throughout South Florida. But thanks to an innovative program affiliated with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, parents and coaches don’t need to go far to treat such injuries.

The [U-18] Sports Medicine program opened at Memorial Hospital Miramar in September, offering a unique blend of rehabilitation and surgical services – a one-stop shop for young athletes eager to get back in the game. The 5,665-square foot facility consists of examination rooms, state-of-the-art digital X-rays and a large physical therapy gymnasium that caters to the varied needs of injured athletes. The waiting room features large windows that provide a full view of the physical therapy area, enabling parents to observe their children’s progress.

Another unique aspect is the program’s affiliation to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital’s Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics & Spinal Deformities. The team of board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeons includes: Michael Jofe, MD; Randolph Cohen, MD; Neal McNerney, MD; Stephen Storer, MD; and Cara Novick, MD. In addition, a nurse practitioner, physician’s assistant and athletic trainers support care and help patients in their efforts to return to peak performance. Treatment plans are based on each patient’s needs, taking into consideration age, gender, diagnosis and sport-specific concerns.
