Among the Nation's Top 100 Hospitals

(Pembroke Pines, Fl.) – Based on overall organizational performance, Memorial Hospital West has been named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® by the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters. Memorial Hospital West was the only non-teaching hospital in South Florida, and one of only three Florida hospitals listed in the 2008 100 Top Hospitals® roster.

“This award recognizes the kind of care and commitment to quality, safety and satisfaction that our culture of ‘Patient First’ stands for and that our patients have come to expect from us,” said C. Kennon Hetlage, FACHE, administrator, Memorial Hospital West.

As part of the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® National Benchmarks study, the Healthcare business evaluated public information – which included Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis, core measure, patient satisfaction and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Compare Data (CMS) - from 3,000 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals. The study is based on each organization’s performance in nine areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio, patient satisfaction and adherence to clinical standards of care.

This is the second Memorial Healthcare System hospital to be ranked in a Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® list in recent months. In November 2008, the Healthcare business named Memorial Regional Hospital as one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® for cardiovascular care, as published in 2008 Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success.
