Two Breast Oncologists Join The Memorial Breast Cancer Center Physicians to Support Breast Oncology Programs at Memorial Regional Hospital and Memorial Hospital West

(Hollywood, Fla.) —Carmen Julia Calfa, MD, and Aruna Mani, MD, recently joined the medical staffs of Memorial Regional Hospital and Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines. Both physicians will work along side Drs. Sandra Franco and Alejandra Perez, who are co-directors of the Memorial Breast Cancer Center, a disease-specific program at the Memorial Cancer Institute. They will provide care and treatment to breast cancer patients and be actively involved in clinical breast cancer research.

Dr. Calfa, a board certified oncologist, was born and raised in Romania. She received a medical degree at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Targu-Mures, Romania, graduating among the top ten in her class. Upon graduation, she joined the University as a clinical Instructor in Epidemiology and Public Health. During this time, she entered residency in Hematology, Immunology and Biochemistry and became nationally board certified in January 2000. She went on and completed her Internal Medicine training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2004 and continued as a research fellow, working in the development of new targeted therapies for breast cancer. Dr. Calfa completed her Hematology/Oncology training in 2008, graduating from the University of Miami. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.




Dr. Mani graduated from University of Akron, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences. She received her medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and completed her residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Aruna has contributed to clinical research through her work in cancer immunology and has co-authored a book chapter on bone metastasis. She has been a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.
