FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(Hollywood, Fla.) — Drowning is the number one cause of death in children under the age of 13. According to county statistics, Broward County has the highest number of drowning deaths for children under the age of 4 than any other county in Florida.

Aiming to curb this trend, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital has been on the forefront of swimming education, raising awareness on drowning prevention and water safety. In June, the Children’s Hospital partnered with YMCA of Broward County and dedicated a new aquatic center in Hollywood, which bears the name Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital YMCA Aquatic Center.

The Center offers a variety of aquatic programs for children as young as 1 year old. Programs for adults are available, along with a menu of specialty classes such as water polo, synchronized swimming, master swim club and youth swim team.
