Patient and Family Resource Centers

Memorial Healthcare System has Patient and Family Resource Centers available for use by our patients, and their loved ones and primary caregivers. The centers provide practical, beneficial health-related information, hospitality services and community support group information.

The Patient and Family Resource Center at Memorial Regional Hospital

Staffed by trained volunteers, the center helps patients and families connect to resources both during and after a hospital experience. Please stop in and browse. The center is located on the fifth floor at Memorial Regional Hospital and its services include:

• Welcome Center: information about hotels, restaurants, stores, laundry services, transportation, banks and places of worship close to the hospital
• Courtesy telephones
• Internet access
• Fax and copy machines
• Caringbridge.org, free, personalized websites that support and connect loved ones during critical illness, treatment and recovery
• Information about hospital resources, including
• Chaplain services
• Services for patients with special needs
• Social services
• Patient relations
• Community resources
• Support groups
• Information about specific health conditions
• Information to help prevent the spread of infections

Love ♥ Jen Family Center

The Love ♥ Jen Family Center is located in Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. It is 4,000 square feet of family space, which includes:

• Living room with a big-screen TV
• Playroom
• Classroom
• Kitchen
• Conference room
• Relaxation room
• Shower and laundry facilities

The family center is staffed by child life specialists and volunteers. The classroom is staffed by a full-time Broward County school teacher. There are two CarePage kiosks for families to set up web pages for their children. Free lunch is served daily for parents from 11:30am to 12:30pm in the kitchen and living room areas.

The Patient and Family Resource Room at Memorial Regional Hospital South

Located on the fourth floor across from the elevators, the Patient and Family Resource Room at Memorial Regional Hospital South is a calm, welcoming space. Family members can rest and re-group, use the computer, watch television, read a book and stay in touch with other family members.

The Advisory Council, which is made up of former patients and family members, provided suggestions and guidance in designing the space. As a result, the room reflects what patients and family members need and want in an on-site refuge.

Even the tone of the room is based on PFCC advisors' input, with the goal of providing a peaceful, homelike atmosphere and business center amenities. Additionally, the children's corner offers games, books, a television and movie videos to help keep little ones occupied while parents are using the room.

The David Ross Resource Center at Memorial Cancer Institute

The David Ross Resource Center is on the second floor of the Memorial Cancer Institute facilities on the Memorial Regional Hospital campus. This center provides books, brochures and community resources for cancer patients, their families and friends. This center also provides a location for patients and caregivers to relax, gather information and become educated on the various concerns that one encounters when going through cancer treatments. Oncology Social Workers can assist in locating specific information. One can locate an Oncology Social Worker in Suite 270 of the Memorial Cancer Instituteat Memorial Regional Hospital.

The Family Resource Center at Memorial Hospital West

The peaceful and welcoming Family Resource Center at Memorial Hospital West is located off the third-floor lobby and overlooks the hospital's outdoor patio. In this relaxing common space, patients and families can reconnect with their daily lives. The center provides health-related information, hospitality services, access to the Internet, fax and copy services, notary public service, and helpful information about community resources and support groups.

A project of the Memorial Hospital West Family Advisory Council, the center is staffed by Memorial Hospital West volunteers.

The Patient and Family Resource Center at Memorial Hospital Miramar

Located on the third floor of Memorial Hospital Miramar, the Patient and Family Resource Center provides helpful health-related information, hospitality services, community information and support. In addition to a comfortable family lounge area, the center's amenities include three computer work stations, a photocopier, a fax machine and a printer. The center is open around-the-clock, providing patients and their families with access to computers where they can bookmark health information websites, and keep family and friends up-to-date about patients' conditions while at the hospital.
