Meet the Physicians
Atif Hussein, MD
Medical Director of Memorial Cancer Institute and Medical Director of Clinical Oncology Research
Dr. Hussein has a degree in medicine from American University of Beirut and a master’s degree in medical management from Tulane University. He is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology.
Previous positions include Assistant Professor in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Miami and Duke University Medical Center; Director of Clinical Research in South Florida for Response Oncology; and Deputy Director of Cancer Research for Columbia South Florida. He was also the principal investigator on trials through the Mount Sinai Community Clinical Oncology Program for four years. He has received grants and awards for his research in ovarian cancer and chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
Presently, Dr. Hussein is the chairman of Memorial Healthcare System’s ethics committee and a member of the chemotherapy safety committee and hematology/oncology peer review committee. He is also active in the community as a board member of the Broward Chapter of the American Cancer Society and Gilda’s Club Scientific Counsel.
Daren Grosman, MD
Associate Medical Director, Memorial Cancer Institute
Co-Director, Leukemia, Lymphoma and Bone Marrow Transplant Program
Dr. Grosman is board-certified in internal medicine and hematology/oncology. After receiving his medical degree and Ph.D. in molecular and cellular pharmacology from the University of Miami, he lived in Boston for several years, where he worked as a research associate for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Grosman is a past recipient of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Young Investigator Award. He is presently a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and American Board of Internal Medicine. He is an active member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American College of Physicians. He is the immediate past President on the Executive Committee of the Southern Florida Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Sandra Franco, MD
Co-Director, Breast Cancer Center
Dr. Franco acquired her medical degree from the University of El Rosario, Bogota, Colombia, where she graduated in the top of her class. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Miami School of Medicine. She also completed her Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship training at the University of Miami Medical School. She is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
Dr. Franco served as assistant professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology. She was appointed as a co-leader of the Breast Cancer Program at the University of Miami. She has worked as principal investigator and co-investigator in multiple breast cancer clinical trials, both investigator-initiated trials and those funded by either the National Cancer Institute or by the pharmaceutical industry. She has also been an investigator of multiple national cooperative groups such as ECOG, NSABP and BCIRG and has worked as the Director of the Locally Advanced and Metastatic Breast Cancer Program of the Cancer Research Network.
Alejandra Perez, MD
Co-Director, Breast Cancer Center
Dr. Perez acquired her medical degree at the Health Science Institute in Colombia, graduating among the top ten in her class. She completed her training in internal medicine at Danbury Hospital, an affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine. After completing her residency, she was appointed as Chief Resident in the ambulatory care setting. She also completed her hematology and oncology fellowship training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Perez is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. She is Co-Director of the Breast Cancer Center at Memorial Cancer Institute where she is Primary Investigator on numerous clinical trials addressing the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Her philosophy of care is to treat the individual, completely, including body, mind and spirit with focus on expert disease management whether intent is toward cure, surveillance or control of the breast cancer.
Lyle Feinstein, MD
Co-Director, Leukemia, Lymphoma and Bone Marrow Transplant Program
Dr. Feinstein received his undergraduate degree in biology from Brown University and his medical degree from the University of Miami, where he was a 1996 winner of the American College of Physicians Outstanding Medical Student Award for excellence in internal medicine.
Prior to his arrival at Memorial, Dr. Feinstein completed a residency and fellowship at the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He is an active member of the American College of Physicians - American Society of Internal Medicine; the American Society of Clinical Oncology; the American Society of Hematology; and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplant. He is board-certified in internal medicine and oncology.
In 2002, Dr. Feinstein received the Young Investigator Award by the American Society of Clinical Oncology for his work on nonmyeloablative allografting for acute lymphocytic leukemia.
Pablo Ferraro, MD
Director, Colorectal/GI Program
Dr. Ferraro earned his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires, after which he completed an internal medicine residency and was appointed as a chief resident in internal medicine and an auxiliary teaching staff assistant at the University of Buenos Aires-affiliated Carlos G. Durand Hospital. He did a rotation in infectious disease at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He went on to complete a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the State University of New York’s Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He has participated, as part of his subspecialty training, in basic research investigating integrin receptor signal transduction pathways.
Currently, he is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. His primary interests are in the field of solid tumor oncology, gastrointestinal malignancies, and general hematology.
Dr. Ferraro is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology/hematology. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Raja Mudad, MD
Director, Thoracic Oncology Program
Dr. Mudad received his BS in Biology with high distinction and his MD with distinction from the American University of Beirut. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.
In 1995 Dr. Mudad joined the Tulane University faculty as Associate in Medicine in the Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology. He was later promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine. In 1996 he was appointed Chief of the Section of Hematology/Oncology at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in New Orleans and was also the Associate Chief, Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Tulane Medical School and Director of Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training between 2001-2006.
Dr. Mudad’s primary interest and research is in the field of solid tumor oncology and specifically lung cancer. He has conducted several clinical trials in lung, prostate, head and neck, and bladder cancers.
Elisabeth McKeen, MD
Cancer Genetics Consulting Physician
Dr. McKeen is a graduate of The Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. She had an internship and residency in internal medicine at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals, followed by a fellowship in cancer epidemiology and the genetics of human cancer at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. She then had a fellowship in medical oncology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., before working in private practice settings, hospitals, and academia.
Dr. McKeen has served as clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida's Department of Medicine; consulting associate for Duke University Medical Center; and medical director for the breast center and the cancer genetics & counseling programs at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
She is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hospice and palliative medicine. She is also credentialed in familial cancer assessment and management.
Allen Greenberg, MD
Hematologist-Oncologist
Dr. Greenberg is a graduate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. After completing an internship at the University of Miami School of Medicine and a residency at Barnes Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital, both in St. Louis, he returned to Mt. Sinai for a hematology fellowship.
Dr. Greenberg is currently an associate professor of hematology/oncology at the University of Miami School of Medicine; a co-director of the University of Miami Hemophilia Center; and an affiliate member of the University’s Center for Blood Diseases. He is a two-time winner of the AMA Physicians Recognition Award and a principal investigator for several major pharmaceutical companies. He has been active in many medical organizations through the years, including the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology; the Leukemia Society of America; North Central Cancer Treatment Group; US Oncology, Inc; and the National Hemophilia Foundation. He is board-certified in internal medicine and hematology.
Anna-Ninny Abraham, MD
Hematologist-Oncologist
Dr. Abraham graduated from Kottayam Medical College at the University of Kerala in India. She then relocated to New York to become an intern, resident and hematology fellow at Interfaith Medical Center and a hematology/oncology fellow at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Cabrini Medical Center.
Before coming to Memorial Cancer Institute, Dr. Abraham was an assistant professor of medicine at New York Medical College and an attending physician at Metropolitan Hospital Center, New York. While at Metropolitan Hospital Center, she served on the cancer committee and was recognized by the department of oncology for her clinical and academic excellence.
She is board-certified in hematology, oncology and internal medicine.
