Heart Attack: Know the Signs

In America every 20-seconds someone has a heart attack; every minute someone dies from one. Doctors agree that the quicker you receive treatment the better the results, but most times people don't know all the subtle signs of a heart attack or what to expect. "The heart is a muscle just like any other muscle in the body. Within a few minutes of not having blood flow to that part of the heart, there can be death of cells," said Randy Katz, Medical Director, Emergency Services, Memorial Regional Hospital. "Within an hour or two, patients can have permanent dysfunction of the heart. They can have congestive heart failure, weakened heart muscle, and it can permanently affect their lives."
