Family-Centered Care
At the heart of The Family Birthplace is a Family-Centered Care philosophy, which focuses on information sharing and collaboration between families and medical professionals. With this level of involvement, the entire family can more fully participate in this exciting life event.
An education program called Expectations & Beyond offers guidance with pre-pregnancy planning, childbirth preparation, baby care, infant CPR and more. There also are special classes for new fathers, siblings and grandparents. After delivery, board-certified lactation consultants help new mothers learn to breastfeed successfully, offering classes, educational materials, in-hospital support, and breast pump rentals and sales.
At The Family Birthplace, labor and delivery nurses are certified in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and fetal monitoring. Board-certified neonatologists, anesthesiologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and specially trained neonatal nurses monitor babies 24 hours a day, and every nurse is certified in neonatal resuscitation. Furthermore, as part of Memorial Healthcare System, The Family Birthplace has full access to advanced care for critically ill newborns.
