May 2005 — The new Children’s Emergency Department at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is now bigger and better than ever!
The expanded facility now features more than twice the treatment areas as before, some of the latest technological advancements and a variety of kid-friendly features — all designed to provide the most dedicated and responsive emergency medical care possible for children. The highly skilled staff of board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and certified pediatric emergency nurses has the experience and expertise to handle nearly any emergency medical situation. Further, as a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, it is qualified to treat even the most severe injuries and illnesses.
Created Just for Kids
“This Emergency Department was designed with input from parents whose children have been patients at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, and to see it come to fruition is a testament of how much we value our patients’ views and how committed we are to offering the best medical care possible,” says Albert C. Jones, Chairman of the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners, the governing body of the public, non-profit Memorial Healthcare System.
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital has enhanced its Emergency Department to not only provide a full scope of emergency services, but also a child-friendly environment that young patients would enjoy. The new surroundings include a colorful baseball and village décor, a playroom and an outside playground. Children and their families can engage in additional activities and educational play led by kind and caring child life specialists, who help support the Family-Centered Care approach at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Each of the 23 patient rooms has a TV, and a centralized Nutrition Station offers basic refreshments for adults and children, such as coffee, tea, sports drinks and frozen juice pops.
Additional enhancements to provide optimum patient care and comfort includes:
- Separate entrances for patients and ambulances
- Innovative patient tracking technology
- A separate radiology suite
- A secure psychiatric area
