Young Cancer Survivor Praises Memorial Breast Cancer Centers for Compassionate, Full-Service Care

Trish

When Trish was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer at the age of 37, she sought a second opinion from Alejandra Perez, MD.

Unexpectedly, she found more than just a top-notch oncology expert. "Dr. Perez was so patient, empathetic and kind that she could be your sister, your best friend or your mom," says Trish. "Whenever I would come in to see her, I would break down in tears, but as scared as I was, I felt like I could overcome cancer because I was in such good hands."

With only five months of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiation, Trish became cancer-free. She credits her rapid recovery to Dr. Perez and her continued good health to the Memorial Breast Cancer Centers of Memorial Cancer Institute.

Directed by Dr. Perez, Memorial Breast Cancer Centers are two of only a few freestanding centers in the nation devoted exclusively to breast cancer. They offer leading-edge medical treatment, including complementary and supportive therapies, including acupuncture, massage and more. The center also features an on-site Image Recovery Center®, a full-service salon that offers personalized counseling and cosmetic services to help cancer patients adjust to the physical and emotional changes brought about by chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery.

"I will be forever grateful to the entire staff of the Breast Cancer Center, from the nursing assistants to the phlebotomists to the people at the front desk. They are never in a hurry, and they listen to what you have to say. It's never one-size-fits-all," says Trish.

Today, Trish lives in Weston, where she works as a cosmetologist and volunteers for breast cancer charities. Chief among her blessings is Sam, her 4-year-old son, who was conceived after she was told she had only a 5 percent chance of getting pregnant.

"There are so many people battling breast cancer all over the world, and I would not hesitate for one second to send them to Memorial Breast Cancer Centers so they can experience the kind of care that I was fortunate enough to receive," says Trish. "There is such hope, such providence. When I saw Dr. Perez at the grand opening of the Image Recovery Center, I said to her, 'Thank you for fighting for me.'"
