Awards Roundup, Summer 2012
Over the summer, Memorial Healthcare System was honored to receive numerous national recognitions for the entire system and specific hospitals. Memorial's commitment to patients and the community, and its reputation as a healthcare leader extends far beyond South Florida. Here is a round-up of the most recent accolades.
Top of the Class with 4 'A's in Hospital Safety
Four hospitals in Memorial Healthcare System were among the 10 total Broward County hospitals that received 'A' rankings for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, a national, not-for-profit healthcare watchdog. Memorial Regional Hospital, Memorial Regional Hospital South, Memorial Hospital West and Memorial Hospital Miramar each received the top mark in Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Score.
The grade was determined through 26 measures combining information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and a Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The safety scores are based on data that includes rates of deaths of surgical patients, bed sores, patient falls, nursing staffing levels and other critical safety measures.
Of the more than 2,600 hospitals graded by Leapfrog, 729 scored an 'A', 679 a 'B' and 1,242 a 'C' or below. The full Leapfrog reports can be found at hospitalsafetyscore.org.
Memorial Hospital West and Memorial Regional Hospital, both part of the Memorial Healthcare System, were recognized in the U.S News & World Report's Best Hospitals in Southern Florida. In the 2012-13 rankings, Memorial Hospital West ranks 5th in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area, and Memorial Regional Hospital ranks number 12.
Best Places To Work
Memorial Healthcare System was named one of Florida's "100 Best Companies To Work For" for the fourth consecutive year and is the only healthcare system on the list for the third year in a row. The 2012 rankings appear in the August issue of Florida Trend magazine.
The program recognizes a total of 100 companies in small, medium and large company categories, with Memorial Healthcare System placing number 17 among the large companies (250+ employees) from throughout Florida. Memorial – Most Wired
Memorial Healthcare System made the 2012 list of "Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems" in the July cover story of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine (H&HN). This year, 215 hospitals met the Most Wired criteria, including just five from Florida. The Most Wired Survey is conducted annually by H&HN, the journal of the American Hospital Association (AHA). It focuses on how the nation's hospitals use information technologies for quality, customer service, public health and safety, business processes and workforce issues. This year, hospitals, such as Memorial, graded higher for utilizing social media for community outreach and crisis communication.
Now in its 14th year, the Most Wired Survey gathered IT information from 1,570 U.S. hospitals and was conducted in cooperation with McKesson Corporation, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the AHA. The July H&HN article and complete results are available at hhnmag.com.
