March 2001 — Memorial Healthcare System is proud to announce the opening of the Memorial Hospital West Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The 9000-square-foot facility, which opened on March 6th, is "a one-stop shop designed for the convenience of our patients," says Zeff Ross, Administrator for Memorial Hospital West.

The $2 million-dollar addition will be attached to the hospital's existing radiation therapy suite and will contain physician offices, chemotherapy treatment areas, a laboratory, and a retail pharmacy. "We have made a commitment to housing our medical oncologists and radiation oncologists under one roof to make it easy for patients to consult with the various professionals involved in their care," says Sally Abrams, Director of Radiology Services.

The Memorial Hospital West Comprehensive Cancer Center will provide not only medical services but support services as well. "We are working with the American Cancer Society to provide programs of interest to our patients, plus on-site cosmetic services," says Abrams. "Patients undergoing chemotherapy will be able to shop for wigs, makeup, and other items to enhance their appearance. Our goal is to care for patients in every possible way."

Memorial Healthcare System also operates the Memorial Regional Comprehensive Cancer Center in Hollywood, which treated nearly twice as many cancer patients as any other hospital in Broward (HealthShare Technology, Inc.).
