Press Ganey to Present National Awards to Memorial Regional Hospital & Memorial Hospital Pembroke
October 2002 — Memorial Regional Hospital has been chosen to receive a Press Ganey 2002 Compass Award, and Memorial Hospital Pembroke has been named one of Press Ganey's Success Story Award winners for the year.
Both of the 2002 awards will be presented during a ceremony at the Press Ganey National Client Conference in Washington, DC, in November.
Press Ganey Associates, which is based in South Bend, Indiana, is the healthcare industry's leading satisfaction measurement and improvement firm. One-third of the nation's hospitals — including 44 percent of hospitals with more than 100 beds — use the company's customer satisfaction surveys and other benchmarking measurements to assess and improve services. The company calculates findings from more than 7 million surveys annually.
Competing with large hospitals across the nation, Memorial Regional Hospital was honored with the Compass Award for using patient satisfaction data to improve quality of care. The improvements were reflected in patient survey scores, which rose an average of more than 3 points during a two-year period. To qualify for the Compass Awards, a healthcare facility must improve its mean score rating by at least two points during the previous two years and have one of the three highest scores in its category.
"This kind of achievement is possible only when people come together with a common vision toward service excellence and high-quality, safe and compassionate healthcare delivery," says Jay Piriz, administrator of Memorial Regional Hospital. "Our healthcare team throughout the hospital has consistently shown that our patients are our highest priority."
Success Story Awards acknowledge a hospital's advances in quality improvement. In 2001, Memorial Hospital Pembroke was a Success Story Award finalist as well as a Compass Award recipient.
"It is an honor for us to receive this award," says Ken Hetlage, administrator of Memorial Hospital Pembroke. "It is a reflection of our employees' ability to work together to provide every patient with excellent care."
Memorial Hospital Pembroke will send a team of 10 employees to the Press Ganey conference in Washington, DC. The team, which includes both managers and staff, will give a 20-minute presentation to conference attendees about how Memorial Hospital Pembroke was able to achieve leadership in customer satisfaction. Like all facilities in Memorial Healthcare System, Memorial Hospital Pembroke works continually to improve patient-relations policies through system-wide education and awareness programs for employees.
