Embrace LIFE for a New You!
January 2004 — Why wait until you lose weight to feel good about yourself? Don't delay! Embrace life today. Feel good about yourself as you are now. Give yourself the opportunity to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
That's the philosophy behind LIFE, a comprehensive new program offered at Memorial Hospital West Fitness & Rehabilitation Center.
A New Lease on LIFE
Opening the door to a fresh perspective on health and motivation, the new LIFE program is more than a weight-loss regimen. This 8-week program is designed for women only and focuses on key elements missing from standard weight-loss programs: motivation and confidence.
"We realized that women seeking to lose a significant amount of weight may be knowledgeable about nutrition and health; however, they may lack the motivation, support and confidence to make a healthy lifestyle a permanent habit," says Rob Herzog, Director of the Memorial Hospital West Fitness & Rehabilitation Center. "We designed the LIFE program to provide those key elements."
Embrace the Now
Group classes are held twice a week and incorporate the benefits of Healthy Habits — a specialized nutrition and behavior modification program — along with exercise and training direction. An experienced and motivational trainer leads the group and provides invaluable support and encouragement every step of the way.
Designed to encourage healthy self-esteem, the program includes meetings with a fashion consultant and a beauty consultant. These consultations provide tips and insights into fashion, skin, hair and nail care that increase women's confidence and allow them to see themselves in a more positive light. In addition, by feeling better about themselves as they are today, participants can continue to effect positive change in the future. Interpersonal relationships, social situations and even working out become less intimidating when all the pieces fit together.
With an improved self-image, participants gain the confidence to participate in activities they may have previously avoided.
"The LIFE program strives to take the self-consciousness out of social situations as well as working out. We want participants to have fun now and not wait for the future to be happy," says Herzog. "Without the hesitation or self-consciousness, there are no barriers between where they are now and where they would like to be. This sets the foundation for the future."
