Gynecologic Oncology
Your comfort and peace of mind are important to us. Our staff is happy to help you and your family with any questions you have about your treatment plan. Our affiliated gynecologic cancer specialists incorporate equipment and the latest medical procedures to treat women's cancers. Our program includes:
- Colposcopy
A minimally invasive procedure that allows close inspection of the area. - Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy
A catheter is placed in the abdominal cavity to combat certain ovarian cancers. - Laparoscopic Surgery
Video technology assists with hysterectomies, lymph node detection and cancer staging procedures. - Laser Surgery
Often used to treat invasive cancers of the cervix, vagina and vulva. - Radical Pelvic Surgery
An important option when extensive intervention is needed. - Urinary Pouch
An artificial bladder for the patient whose bladder has been removed.
Each year, many patients with gynecologic cancer are treated at Memorial Cancer Institute, with ovarian, uterine and cervical cancers being the most common malignancies.
Our affiliated gynecologic oncologists are fellowship-trained in surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and palliative care.
If a patient is referred to a radiation oncologist, the gynecologic oncologist will continue to follow the case. Gynecologic oncologists also refer patients to community gynecologists, especially for cases that require surgery for malignant or complex benign conditions.
Excellent working relationships among our oncologic physicians help ensure comprehensive care. In addition, Memorial Cancer Institute physicians participate in national research studies that provide access to the latest treatments. Our specialty physicians are experienced in cancer Genetics, an important aspect of managing Breast and Ovarian Cancer.
